Breast and Thyroid Surgery
Dr Adrian Westcott provides assessment and treatment of the following conditions:
PARATHYROID SURGERY
Parathyroid surgery is the removal of one or more of the parathyroid glands which are located in the neck besides the thyroid gland. This surgery is done through a cut along the "necklace'' line of the neck. The parathyroid hormone regulates calcium in the body.
When the parathyroid gland is enlarged it produces too much parathyroid hormone, this condition is called hyperparathyroidism. This causes high levels of calcium in the blood. Hyperparathyroidism is diagnosed by a blood test for calcium and parathyroid hormone. A urine calcium test is also performed.
Surgical removal of the parathyroid gland/s may curse the symptoms of hyperparathyroidism.
THYROID SURGERY
Thyroid surgery is where part or all of this thyroid gland/s are removed through a cut along the ''necklace'' line of the neck.
The thyroid gland regulates the use of energy in the body and is located in the neck. The thyroid is a single gland with right and left sides.
Thyroid disorders can either be hormone production (too little or too much) or enlargement of the gland. Blood test and scans are used to determine your thyroid levels (hormone production) and the size of your thyroid. Surgical options are either total (removal of the whole gland) or hemithyroidectomy (removal of one half of the gland).
